    A beautiful piece, just a bit easier than choruses from "Messiah". Mendelssohn at his best, using lush romantic melodies, but treating them with all of the logic he learned from playing Bach, etc. This has a more practical organ reduction than in other editions, and nice clear typography.     text is an Old Testament prophecy that I would think has a strong impact on its own for Jewish worship. However for Christians, this text may have a rather oblique connection to Christmas: thus it helps that two shorter movements with other texts are included here, to help connect the point for listeners. Well worth considering.
