A flurry of glissando, wailing double-stops, and the most dissonant natural harmonics ever found on a bass, this is a winner for any bassist sick of the standard concerto format. Xenakis's bass solo "Theraps" is arguably the least-conventional piece ever written for a double bass. This song...

might possibly be the strangest thing I have played, and ever will play. This song takes you far beyond the normal styles of bass playing, and enters you into a whole new way of looking at music. Xenakis wrote many songs that are challenging to the listener, as well as the performer, and this song is no exception. This song is great for any bassist willing to go out of the ordinary, but I must warn you that it is very challenging, and quite difficult to follow. You may want to pick up a recording of this song and listen to it several times before you attempt to try it for yourself.
