This traditional English carol gave me an opportunity to create an energetic, lively collaboration between violin and piano soloists, accompanied by orchestra. The natural rhythm of this carol not only gives it a dance-like feel, but a beautiful lyrical quality as well. It is somewhat challenging both technically and musically, and requires careful balance between the two soloists as well as with the orchestra. The energy it produces makes it a suitable addition to a concert or worship service experience, and many audiences will recognize this as a familiar Christmas tune. There is a lot of joy to this carol! -Duane Funderburk
