The solo and choral parts are exactly as Dubois wrote them with incidental rhythmic alterations indicated to accommodate the new English translation provided by the editor. The flexibility is derived from the various options available for accompanying the work. It may be effectively performed with: organ alone--a new, organist-friendly transcription of the orchestration is provided in the choral score; organ and flute A (30/1849LA), harp, and timpani; organ and flute B (30/1816LA), oboe, harp, and timpani; a chamber orchestra of strings, flute A and B, oboe, harp, timpani, and a separate and distinct organ part (30/1825LA), and conductor's score (30/1815LA). Made practical with its variety of solid accompaniment alternatives, this pragmatic edition assures an inspirationally compelling rendition of a masterwork well within the choral grasp of most church choirs.
