About The Music Tree

The Music Tree series continues the development of complete musicianship by providing the beginner with delightful and varied repertoire. The pupil learns a variety of idioms encompassing folk, jazz and pop. The creativity of the students is emphasized since they are given musical segments to rearrange, transpose, complete or to use as the basis for a new composition. Technical aspects are also addressed including greater facility, blocked intervals and chords, and more hands together playing. Guided training steps are used to encourage intelligent practice skills.

As a long time teacher who uses the Frances Clark Music Tree, I am delighted that Alfred has finally published a Christmas volume. Finally I can assign Christmas music that does not use middle C hand positions to beginning students!

  • 2007-11-26 00:00:00.0 Good book for beginners with some experience

This is a good Christmas book for students familiar with The Music Tree teaching method. It is more appropriate for students near the end of the Part 1 lesson books or in the beginning of Part 2A, since many of the pieces assume skills that are taught at the end...

of the Part 1 lesson book. If you start your student while they're in the beginning of the Part 1 lesson book, they may be frustrated by not having enough pieces appropriate for their skill level. This book reinforces the skills introduced in the lesson book, though, and even though there isn't a large selection of songs, my students find the songs that are appropriate for their skill level satisfying to learn.
