There's only a couple verses, put them where they belong. Still good though.

  • May 14, 2009 Unsatisfactory Transcriptions for piano.

Sorry, mr. "filmstudentalpha from Minneapolis, MN", but I didn't find the piano transcriptions as nearly as "faithful" and "authentic" as you said it would be. I bought this book for the "Life On Mars" transcription and unfortunately for me, the transcriber didn't bother to transcribe the verse 2...

; he just put a repeat sign which is ridiculous because its not an exact repeat. He also "shoved" the guitar solo and segments of the orchestra part into the piano part, perhaps to conserve space. I was going to try and perform this for school but this transcription has left me dangling. Everything is fine, I guess. Beware, this is not a work of superlative quality. The guitar chords and the vocals are fine. Could have been better...: someone

    Difficulty Level:
  • June 30, 2008 A little disapointed

I was also disapointed with the fact that in so many of the songs I have to try and play all three lines to get the sound that I'm looking for. It's kind of frusterating. I Love Life on Mars, that's been my fav. for ever and...

I was sad that they left out verse 2. It really is lacking the gutts of that song!

A great songbook with one major flaw......they couldnt be bothered to put the second verse under the first so you have to hope your memory serves well until you can turn to the final page of song to see the lyric!

    Difficulty Level:
  • October 03, 2001 Finally! Faithful Piano Transcriptions!

Those of us who are veterans of songbooks for contemporary albums and artists are well aware of one very typical approach that transcribers take to writing out "sheet music": approximate the chords in the bass cleff, then try to pass off the vocal line as an authentic piano transcription in...

the treble cleff. Well, for once, we can rest easy and use THIS songbook with renewed confidence. The Best of David Bowie - 1969-1974 contains some of the most faithful transcriptions of a contemporary artist's music that you will ever play. Of course, this increases the level of difficulty when performing these tunes, but you'll finally have the satisfaction of knowing you're not playing yet another vocal-line in place of the true notation. The guitar chords sound wonderful, too -- although you might twist a knuckle or two trying to play the more elaborate ones! Now, if only they would come out with guitar transcriptions of Bowie's albums, I would be in heaven.
