With his Op. 45 Hummel composed another series of dances in the year 1812 that he dedicated to the Apollosaal, the most fascinating amusement hall of Old Vienna, and a popular venue for the enlightened nobility just as for the emerging bourgeoisie. The composition includes six Minuets and six German Dances followed by Trios. The Introduction in the style of a brisk march and the large style Coda offer stylistic surprises. These enjoyable musical miniatures offer an interesting glimpse into the creation history of the classical waltz and the world famous Viennese dance culture. They retain their charm as dance music to the present day.
