Jean-Lous Beaumadier's ongoing piccolo repertoire project is one of the most extensive of its kind, and his active career as performer and recording artist plays an important part in redefining the piccolo. Beaumadier has established the piccolo as an expressive and versatile instrument, which belongs as much in solo recitals and chamber repertoire as it does in the orchestra. This album brings together a number of works which demonstrate the lighter side of the piccolo's character. Written since the middle of the twentieth century, by composers whose origins span Europe and South America, the music heard here captures the piccolo's characteristic sparkle in combinations with piano, percussion and other flutes. ''The Paganini of Piccolo'', as Jean-Pierre Rampal said about him, Jean-Louis Beaumadier is now recognized as one of the best piccolo player in the world, if not the best one. Performing all around the world as a soloist, he is also editor of a piccolo scores collection, including many new compositions written for him an dusually firs tperforming by him.
