  • November 09, 2008 Greatest Songwriters of the Modern Era

Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Gershwin & Gershwin, Lennon & McCartney, Becker & Fagen. Two 'nerds' who turned popular music into an art form. The most unlikely 'rock' stars you will ever see or hear. The last of the old guard from the now extinct tin-pan alley. Influenced by the blues, jazz, soul...

, popular music, their university study of english literature & their parents' big-band records, Becker & Fagen's music is unique. This anthology has most of the Dan's 'hits' and is a great starting point for anyone wanting to play or study their songs.

Decent sheet music pretty close to what I was looking for. I was interested in getting chord structures for re-arranging songs for big band charts.

    Difficulty Level:
  • September 08, 2004 No Riffs - But it is Accurate

The music has been written with the guitar playing the main theme of the songs including some panio work. What this book lacks are the guitar riffs. There are no section in the scores either showing where they go or any ad-libing. Otherwise the scores are accurate.

Don't buy any Steely Dan music unless it's published by Cherry Lane; all the other stuff is crap. This is the real deal, with the right chords, overseen by Becker & Fagen themselves. This anthology is not complete; as far as I know there isn't a complete anthology...

from Cherry Lane. But it's more comprehensive than the "Best Of . . ."
