This is the same key as the new broadway score. Different from the movie and original score. I personally like the new score better anyway

    Difficulty Level:
  • March 24, 2009 Fine vocal line; bad key and accompaniment

The original key is a half step higher than this (E major). It makes a world of difference, not only to the singer as far as placement and range goes (for a soprano a B and a B flat can be a huge half step) but also to the listener...

. The original key has a much tenser mood to it. This key (E flat major) feels sluggish, boring, and less intense. Just my personal opinion: if you're using this for an audition piece or a performance piece, find it in the original key. That's the key Bernstein chose-- he must have done it for a reason!
