    Difficulty Level:
  • May 31, 2007 Reger is unjustly overlooked

This Reger work is one I discovered by accident. A fine recording can be found on the CD "Souvenir" with violinist Graham Wood. The entire work contains enough technical challenges to keep it interesting but not enough to make it frustrating for less-advanced violinists. It is a wonderful work...

for developing one's skill in the combination of multiple positions and bowing styles. As a solidly intermediate violinist myself, I found that I was able to read through all except the Capriccio with reasonable success. My favorite movements are the Romanze, the Petite Caprice, and the Burla.
