"Puer Natus" - "A Boy is Born". This organ work is based on the ancient "Puer Natus" chant, but instead of opening with the original chant melody, it starts with a newly-composed countermelody. Then after the eventual introduction of the chant tune itself the two melodies weave in and out of each other, like friends sharing Christmas joy.
This simple and prayerful arrangement of "Puer Natus" is ideal as a soft and somewhat short prelude, processional, or reflection for Advent or the Christmas and Epiphany seasons. It is perfect for Early-Intermediate level performers - either those who are learning organ directly, or pianists learning organ skills - and/or requires very little practice time for the more advanced organist.
