Bringing together Steven Spielberg’s writing and production talents with director Richard Donner (Superman) and screenwriter Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone), the spirit of adventure is palpable, and one of the reasons the movie has had such a cult following over the years. Dave Grusin’s fun-filled score captures the tone of the picture perfectly, referencing the likes of John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith and Max Steiner. Indeed it even directly quotes from Williams’ Superman, Steiner’s Don Juan and Monty Norman’s James Bond theme at the appropriate moments. This short cue; “6m1 Plumbing” occurs when the titular gang start banging on the plumbing underneath the Astoria Country Club, attempting to attract the attention of anyone above. Created from the original manuscript, this release offers a rare opportunity to study film music in its authentic, original orchestration and arrangement. An opportunity not to be missed!
