Paul Juon (1872-1940) 'crossed boundaries', both in a geographical sense and in musical terms. He lived and worked in Romanticism and Modernism, East and West. Juon's oeuvre includes works in almost all genres, though the emphasis is on chamber music. The three groups of works recorded here are for an instrumental ensemble that one rarely comes across - two violins and a piano - for which he elegantly finds the right balance of sound. He also explores to the full the violin's possibilities, both on its own and in duo, subtly weaving the piano into their music to create these beautiful works.
