Arranged by Craig Garner. Score,Set of Parts. 18 pages. Published by Dorm 40 Music (H0.557099-SC001266187).Astor Piazzolla revolutionized the music of the tango, fusing elements from jazz and classical music into what he called “nuevo tango.” Oblivion was composed in 1982 as music for a film by Mario Bellochio entitled “Enrico IV.” Oblivion is written in the style of a milonga, a song form that predates the tango. It has become one of Piazzolla’s most popular works. The music is at once beautiful, haunting and sultry; able to express strong emotions which cannot be put into words.
Yo-Yo Ma said: “Piazzolla’s tangos have the great strengthof true voice…. Piazzolla’s music is endlessly passionate—full of yearning—and at the same time tremendously contemporary.”
This arrangement for brass quintet features the horn and trumpet. It is suitable for almost any recital or concert setting. Performance time, 4:00. Published by Dorm 40 Music, www.dorm40music.com
