Nunc Dimittis in F major
Written for the Licencing of of the priest in charge at the church where James was organist for 6 years.
The setting was written to juxtapose Stainer's Magnificat in F and works very well as a short reflective setting of the Canticle for 4 part choir (with occasional divises in all parts).
Despite being a very short setting of the Song of Simeon, it should not be taken too slowly, although a slower tempo than suggested may be adopted, one should be careful that it is not allowed to drag.
Text taken from the Book of Common Prayer.
