This Christmas suite brings together tunes that convey the progression and event of the Nativity.  “While shepherds watched” starts the first movement (Shepherds) and is followed in the section with “Angels We have Heard on High”.

The second movement (Prophecy) interleaves the tune “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” with references to “When He Cometh”.

The third movement (Nativity) uses the Huron Carol … “Jesus your King is born, Jesus is born, in excelsis gloria...” written probably in 1642 by Jean de Brébeuf, a Jesuit missionary among the Hurons in Canada.

The fourth and final movement (Herald) uses the well-known Christmas carol “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” to herald the arrival of our Christ and Lord.
