It was borne of a final project for anundergraduate theory course and to an indirect and modest degree inspired by a study abroad course I had taken the previous summer in central Europe. Thus, it utilizes Hungarian scales, Hungarian rhythms, and a Hungarian folk melody, resulting in this rather unusual first piece for concert band. What does it mean? I have decided to leave that to the audience.
