The professor of flute at a well-known Pennsylvania university gave a faculty recital. After the performance he asked me if I had anything for solo unaccompanied flute. He said "I am going to Singapore and I do not want to have to deal with taking electronic equipment or an accompanist." I said "not at the moment but give me a week and I will have something for you." This is that piece. Years later MONOLOGUE was performed at New York's Carnegie Hall by one of his former students. This 4 minute piece might be appropriate for an advanced upper secondary student, but it is intended for a college student or professional flautist.
