Published by Mynstrel (S0.248491).On the wall, above the altar in St Govan's chapel (a place I know well) on the Pembrokeshire coast, you can just make out the shape of the cross that was once fixed there. By pressing some manuscript paper into the middle of the cross shape I was able to create a note row. Whilst sitting on a stone bench I came up with a simple melody, I wrote the word 'Kyrie' underneath, almost without thinking. This melody and the note row later became firmer ideas that helped to shape the composition of this work, thirty years after my first performed piece, a Missa Brevis for SATB and organ.
The work is designed to be performed complete as part of worship, as a concert piece, or if desired, as separate pieces.
