A staple in brass methods, Melodious Etudes for Trombone, Book 1 has been re-engraved, corrected by pedagogue Alan Raph, and printed with a lay-flat binding for ease of use. Additionally, Bordogni's original piano accompaniments, written specially for the vocalises, are presented with these etudes for the first time. As a bonus, the edition now includes a CD containing MP3s and printable PDFs of the original piano accompaniments, performed by Rae Moses. These etudes, transcribed from the vocalises of Bordogni, have been specially prepared for use by trombonists in order to perfect their overall technique and in particular to develop style in the interpretation of melody.

This version is OK, but not as good as the Encore version by Michael Mulcahy (that one also costs LESS)

I can't believe this was edited by a trombone player with only two hands. So many of the etudes need page turns which are impossible in the time avalable for slide trombone players. The whole book needs to re set out to meet the needs the book is intended...

for, a few extra pages a slightly higher price could turn thie edition with a 5 star rating

  • April 17, 2014 Great for french horn!

I love this book! I use it with my french horn students to work on playing in bass clef. We play a little bit out of it every week and use it as part of the warm up routine.

I had been practicing these etudes from the earlier Rochut edition. There have been some subtle changes in some of the etudes, in tempos and notes. Nothing major, but it did trip me up a little while playing through the book. Playing with the piano accompaniments CD is especially good...

as an intonation check, although it is often helpful to make printed copies of the accompaniments for reference.Overall, I have learned more from the Bordogni etudes than from other books.
