Composed by Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953). Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. 20th Century,Graduation,Recital. Score,Set of Parts. 19 pages. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (S0.163513).

Sergei Prokofiev’s comic opera, The Love for Three Oranges, Op. 33, was first produced in Chicago’sAuditorium Theatre in 1921. Prokofievsubsequently composed a concert suite from six of the opera’s selections. Of these, the “March” is probably bestknown. It was adopted as the theme songfor a popular radio series, The FBI inPeace and War, which ran on CBS 1944-1958. Through its use on the program, listeners became familiar with the music and were so impressed that it wasrecorded and published independently as “The FBI March.” Because of its bold, driving and rhythmicnature, the “March” is well suited for a brass group, and makes for an excitingexperience for both musicians and audience.

This arrangement, written for brass quintet using trumpets pitched inBb, was completed in 2012 and runs about 1 minute, 38 seconds. (A C-trumpets version is alsoavailable.) The arranger, Les Smith, canbe reached at lessmith@ufl.edu.
