By Duane Funderburk

Violin, cello, piano - Late Intermediate
Composed by Duane Funderburk. Bestseller. Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Advent, 21st Century. Instrumental part. MorningStar Music Publishers #20-626. Published by MorningStar Music Publishers (MN.20-626).

Item Number: MN.20-626

A lyrical and haunting setting of this mysterious tune for violin, cello, and piano. Range, intonation, sensitivity, and a few flourish passages will require very capable string players. The piano part is not difficult. Part of the “Duane Funderburk Sacred Chamber Music Series.”

These piano trios are dedicated to the many musicians I have the honor of working with every week at Lake Avenue Church in Pasadena, California. They motivate me to write music that challenges both the musician and those listening, to worship our God in different ways using chamber music that captures the skill and creativity of the instrumentalists. These musical colleagues have been an inspiration to me personally for many years, and it is to all of them that I dedicate these pieces.

As a church music leader, I ordered this arrangement for a special Christmas Sunday offertory. The music just barely got here in time, but fortunately is very easy to put together (we only played it through twice before performing it). This arrangement really blessed the congregation. It is truly a...

stunning piece of music that expresses the character of this beautiful hymn. It is one of those pieces which leaves their audience in a breathless silence at the end. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants a gorgeous arrangement for service. Only one thing: my copies arrived bent. I don't know if there is a more sturdy way to package the piece, but since the page size is larger, it would be nice if they shipped it in a durable box instead of an envelope.

We used this to open our 4 Christmas Eve Services, and it was gorgeous! Beautifully conceived to match the ancient classic text. Very playable. Enjoyed it so much, and got lots of good feedback from congregants.
