Organ - Intermediate
Composed by David M. Cherwien, Mark C. Jones, Charles E. Callahan Jr. (1951-), Wilbur Held (1914-), Robert A. Hobby (1962-), Michael Burkhardt, James Biery, Richard Peek, David Schelat, and Kristina Langlois. Postludes, Compilations. Lent. Instrumental part. MorningStar Music Publishers #10-362. Published by MorningStar Music Publishers (MN.10-362).

Item Number: MN.10-362

The selection of postludes during the Lenten season is always a challenging one, particularly when searching for hymn-based works. This compilation of ten arrangements by ten arrangers seeks to alleviate this challenge for the organist. This collection of extant works is eclectic in its selection of hymn tunes, textures, and general styles, while retaining the plaintive and reflective elements of Lent. Dynamic contrasts are also present with some beginning intimately and building to a strong finish, others are grandiose throughout.

First off, I am rating this intermediate/advanced because there are some more challenging pieces, however, do not let that discourage you if you do not feel up for the challenge. Several lower level pieces in here but sound great. Written by well-known composers. Few pieces fit very well...

for Holy Week specifically - very contemplative moods. Few flashier pieces, for lack of a better term. Still, very worthwhile for a church service or recital setting.
