This symphonic band work has been commissioned by the cultural foundation 'Fonds voor de Scheppende Toonkunst' and is dedicated to the Dutch conductor Jan Cober. It is meant as a homage to the great Viennese violin virtuoso Fritz Kreisler (1875-1962). Composer Willem Strietman remembers having seen and heard the celebrated violinist. He admits that he has always been fascinated by Kreisler's performances recorded on old records. Because he also loves Kreisler's compositions he quotes the famous 'Caprice viennois' in this musical homage.
