   WhenGayla Peevey recorded this song in 1953 she was just 10. It may havesounded like a strange Christmas wish; she wanted a Hippopotamus forChristmas. However, her recording became a hit that led to thepurchase of a hippo for the Oklahoma City Zoo. The Bones ofCincinnatus found a welcome audience in 2018, with the birth ahippopotamus named, Fiona, at the Cincinnati Zoo.

    Thisarrangement should be played with swing eighth notes and a feelingthat reflects the tongue-in-cheek humor of the lyrics. It has beenperformed with a vocalist as well as just instruments. Letter D andE include some fun glissandos, so don't be shy about bringing themout. Whether you include the extra parts or just play it as aquintet, this is bound to be an audience pleaser.
