Published by Julia Gordon (S0.401611).Highland Regiments raised in the 18th and early 19th centuries used different devices to distinguish themselves from other regiments, such as emblems, badges, feathers, and particular tunes. But from 1881 all British Army Highland Regiments were required to use ‘Highland Laddie’ as their Regimental March. Because of its enthusiasm and energy, army recruiting sergeants would instruct the piper to play it in an effort to galvanise undecided lads to sign the entry form! Played here as a reel.
