This is a good all round guitar method for beginners who want to start on a solid foundation. I've used this method with students as young as 9 years with great success. It's equally useful for much older beginners (my son used it at university, training as a...

primary school teacher!). Students can then follow on to book 2 or move on to styles of playing they have developed an interest in, with a sound basic understanding of the instrument.

This book teaches students about the guitar. It shows them what string and what fret to use to play a certain note. It also has simple chords to play, such as C major, G seventh, etc., and it also shows simple strumming techniques.
