When I became interested in the subject of classical music for guitar written by women composers, I found some extraordinary music! Compositions for the guitar and the lute worthy of study and performance. I was astonished to find how little of it was recognized, published and performed. Many women composers were successful in their day, but forgotten when they died. This book contains a selection of compositions originally written for the lute and the guitar of talented women composers throughout history.
The three starting points of my research were: -the compositions are composed by guitarist-composers, -the composers are deceased (except for one!), -the musical material is in the public domain.
For that reason compositions of famous women like Ida Presti, Luise Walker, Teresa de Rogatis, Maria Linnemann and many others are not included. Fortunately most of their works are (re)published and therefore easily obtainable.

Des compositions pour la guitare et le luth dignes d'étude et de représentation. J'ai été étonné de constater à quel point peu d'entre elles étaient reconnues, publiées et jouées. De nombreuses compositrices ont connu le succès de leur vivant, mais ont été oubliées après leur décès. Ce livre contient une sélection de compositions originales pour le luth et la guitare de talentueuses compositrices à travers l'histoire.
Les trois points de départ de mes recherches étaient : Les compositions sont écrites par des compositrices-guitaristes. Les compositrices sont décédées (à l'exception d'une !). Le matériel musical est dans le domaine public. Pour cette raison, les compositions de femmes célèbres telles que Ida Presti, Luise Walker, Teresa de Rogatis, Maria Linnemann et bien d'autres ne sont pas incluses. Heureusement, la plupart de leurs œuvres sont (ré)éditées et donc facilement accessibles.
