If these 100 "Piècétudes" meet a triple requirement on behalf of the composer and teacher that I am, it has rapidly turned into a duty. But of this triple requirement, here are the motivations: A perennial expectation emanating from a large community of student-guitarists and their teachers, a need – a craving almost – of rather simple music to play and that is also, while we’re at it, somewhat "sexy" to study. First point.
On a personnal level, to fill an objective void in my catalogue of works: its relative shortage of pieces destined to apprentice-guitarists. I have indeed often been (kindly) criticized – and rightfully so – about not having written enough for this category of students who have roughly between 3 and 6 years of practice. This void should "normally" be filled henceforth with the publication of these 100 pieces of all styles written mainly in their regard. May they remind me on occasion if I have been adequately acquitted of this old "debt"...
Finally, to take advantage of the opportunity which is given to me here to pound in a few of these musically-technical messages that I have held dear for such a long time (messages that were once slipped into 20 Lettres which I had posted to the address of aspiring guitarists, of which some might remember). These messages converge in unison towards the same quest: the closest possible approach to a sort of musical "quintessence", freed would it be from any prejudicial element to it’s good listening. Be it yours alone.
