These Psalm settings from the year 1607, combine Gastoldi's madrigal-like harmonic clarity and rhythmic verve with a chant-like melodic style and chordally chanted "falso bordone" passages. They will be of interest to above average high school choirs and college groups. The pieces will offer an attractive, more accessible, alternative to the Monteverdi "Vespers" published three years later (1610).
