Anacapa Island is a peaceful nature preserve off of the California coast. This beautiful island is volcanic in origin, with a violent beginning (from which the title of this work is derived) that belies its benign existence. This A-B-A work contrasts these two realities with a bold, percussive opening, a lyrical "B" section and a big finish. Idiomatic string writing and colorful winds highlight this delightful new work.
