This great song was released in December 1967 and became number one in the UK Singles Chart in February 1968. I first heard it at the age of eleven, and immediately loved it. Now I know why! It is the melody, strong counterpoint and rhythmic drive that makes it such a wonderful song to arrange!

The players are very experienced and some of the rhythmic figures require a lot of precise bowing so perhaps this quartet may not be suitable for young players. Maybe I will write a simpler version in the future. However, a slower pace would help with the difficult bowing and none of the double stopping is tricky. The first violin goes up an octave towards the end but that is just an option. It sounds just as good in the lower octave.
