The text is based on the ancient Greek tale that has often been depicted in the visual arts. Now, however, the "Rape of Europa” is transported to the pastoral ambiance of the 18th century. An English and German prose translation of the vocal text is also included in the appendix of this edition.
In our editorial series "Chamber Cantatas from the Baroque and Early Classical Periods”, French music has played a relatively minor role to date. This edition thus represents a notable stylistic enrichment of this series. Am Beginn des zweiten Teils halt die Komposition mit tanzerischer Musik Einzug auf dem Ball ehe es schliesslich wieder durch die winterliche Nacht nach Hause geht. Die historische Einrichtung fur Streicher mit kindgemassen Spielzeuginstrumenten hat Franz-Theodor Cursch-Buhren bereits 1896 bei Breitkopf & Hartel veroffentlicht. Die Violinschule ist die erste bedeutende Abhandlung des Geigenspiels in deutscher Sprache. Leopold Mozart geht dabei vor allem auf die durch Tartini und Locatelli gepragte italienische Violinkunst zuruck. In seiner Darstellung wird auch das direkte Umfeld von Wolfgang Amadeus Mozarts musikasthetischer Unterweisung erkennbar. wohl erstmals 1813 durch eine Notenausgabe des Musikverlags Hofmeister. In der ,,Kinder-Symphonie kommen neben der ublichen Orchesterbesetzung ein Kuckuck eine Wachtel und noch andere ungewohnliche Instrumente zum Einsatz. Diese gehoren zu den ,,Berchtesgadener Instrumenten aus Holz geschnitzte Floten Pfeifen und Rasseln die im Berchtesgadener Land hergestellt wurden und als Kinderspielzeug im ganzen Land weit verbreitet waren. Heute konnen diese Instrumente auch durch Floten (Wasser-)Pfeifchen sowie durch Ratschen Rasseln oder Schellenbaum ersetzt werden.
