Written by petition of the great violinist Manuel Guillen "Et in terra pax" is a concise piece, in one movement for solo violin. Quoting the Gloria text "Et in terra pax" from the Mass, this work is a claim for peace in the middle of an aggressive, warlike and cruel world. Three parts can be distinguished in the piece: The first one "Furioso" is the evidence of a violent, unstoppable and unhuman world. The "Lento" that follows is an internal reflexion about the consequences of the wars. The double strings add tension to the music. In the last section "Calmo" the violin looks for the imagined celestial peace, which is visualized at the distance. The violin, starting in its low register, progressively moves towards the high register until the final static cold violin harmonics.
