This grand work contains four contrasting movements. The first movement, Prelude, takes the form of an overture: it raises the curtains and marks the beginning of the piece. The brilliant motifs of the opening are contrasted by a calmer and more lyrical central section, after which the triumphant opening returns for the movement's end. The second movement, Meditation, explores the intimate sounds of the oboe, as well as those of the flute and French horn, backed by a rich orchestral accompaniment. The third movement presents a more upbeat Procession, but not a Procession of the Nobles, as written by Rimsky-Korsakov. Quite the opposite, Procession resembles a second lineprocession from New Orleans, whose up-beat rhythms invite everyone to dance in the streets rather than the measured pacing of a march. Divertimento ends with a Hoedown, the tradition American folk dance idiom, when the band has the opportunity for both vivacity and virtuosity and may play as fast as it can. It is important to play all four movements with precision, clarity and, most importantly, enthusiasm.

Vier verschillende delen vormen samen het geheel in dit divertimento. Elk deel bevat een eigen muzikaal karakter. Het eerste deel, de Prelude, vervult de rol van een ouverture: langzaam maar zeker gaat het doek van het toneel op.We horen briljante motieven, een rustig en lyrisch middendeel en keren dan terug naar de glans van het begin. In het contrasterende Meditation horen we een introvert gezang van de hobo, later voegen zich hierbij ook de fluit en dehoorns. Het orkest geeft hierbij met donkere en lichte klankkleuren begeleiding. Daarna volgt een Procession in de stijl zoals we die uit New Orleans kennen, van 'the second line'-parades. Het werk besluit met een Hoedown, een Amerikaansedans die het orkest de gelegenheid geeft om helemaal los te gaan. Uitdagend en vol virtuositeit! Belangrijk is dat uw orkest alle vier de delen met een precieze articulatie, transparant en vol vreugde speelt.

Vier sehr unterschiedliche Satze fugen sich in diesem Divertimento zu einem Ganzen zusammen. Jeder Satz verkorpert einen eigenen musikalischen Charakter. Der erste Satz, das Prelude, erfullt die Rolle einer Ouverture: Mit ihn geht gewissermassen der Vorhang des Schauspiels auf. Es beginnt mit brillanten Motiven, enthalt einen ruhigeren lyrischen Mittelltei und findet gegen Ende wieder zu Brillanz des Anfangs zuruck. In der daran anschliessenden, kontrastierenden Meditation wird ein in sich gekehrter Gesang der Oboe, spater auch der Flote und des Horns, von zwischen dunkel und hell schillerndne Orchesterfarben begleitet. Danach folgt eine Procession, jedoch keineProcession der Noblen wie bei Rimski-Korsakow, eher eine abgewandelte Second-Line-Procession aus New Orleans, die mit ihren pulsierenden Rhythmen mehr zum Tanz als zum gemessenen Schreiten einladt. Abgeschlossen wird das Stuck durch einen Hoedown, wiederum ein amerikanischer Tanz, der dem Orchester Gelegenheit fur Ubermut und Virtuositat geben soll, und gar nicht schnell genug gespielt werden kann. Wichtig ist in allen vier Satzen eine prazise Artikulation, Tansparenz und Freude am Spielen.

Cette grande oeuvre se compose de quatre mouvements contrastes. Le premier, Prelude, prend la forme d'une ouverture. Les motifs eclatants de l'introduction sont contrastes par un passage central calme et lyrique. Le deuxieme, Meditation, explore les sonorites du hautbois, de la flute et du cor, sur un accompagnement orchestral riche et ample. Le troisieme mouvement s'illustre d'un cortege evoquant les rythmes joyeux et dansants des groupes musicaux d'une parade de la Nouvelle-Orleans. Divertimento s'acheve par un dernier mouvement en forme de danse villageoise typique du folklore americain. Celle-ci permet a l'ensemble de jouer dans un tempo rapide a souhait, tout endemontrant vivacite et virtuosite. Il est important d'interpreter les quatre mouvements avec precision et clarte, et, surtout, avec enthousiasme.

Il secondo movimento, Meditation, esplora le sonorita dell'oboe, del flauto e del corno, su un ricco accompagnamento orchestrale. Il terzo movimento, Procession, evoca i ritmi danzanti dei gruppi musicali nel corso di una parata a New Orleans. Hoedown, il quarto e ultimo movimento, propone un ballo americano dai ritmi molto sostenuti.
