This 18 minutes long Horn Concerto with orchestra (piano reduction also available) has been commissioned by and is dedicated to Bruno Schneider, the renowned Swiss horn virtuoso. It is a very dramatical, gripping work, with animated and lyrical phrases on a challenging technical level in all three movements. The first movement - in which a same sound is repeated over 27 measures on variable rhythmical structures - requests a specially solid rhythmical persistence. In the second movement - partly on undefined pitches - solo cadenzas follow often aleatoric sequences. The third movement of the Concerto is dancing, but ends with a long, soft and fragil outfading note.
Jost Meier, October 2015, Basel, Switzerland.
