Composed by Robert Edward Smith. Parish. Choral, General, Hymn. Octavo. Paraclete Press #0425. Published by Paraclete Press (PL.0425).This anthem for unison voices, was commissioned by the Cape Cod Chapter of the American Guild of Organists as a hymn for the opening convocation of the 2003 New England regional convention. The composer states, "I chose this text because its message is one of thankfulness for the new opportunities each day presents. I remember the first performance of it very clearly, because I was seated in the best place in the church to hear the organ, and the singing was so enthusiastic that by the last verse the organ was inaudible. I named the tune Herring Cove because the beach and the marsh at that location is one of the most beautiful places in the world." Script. Ref.:Psalm 35:9
The inspired melody- when did you last hear on of those?-is smooth as velvet and would make an equally good hymn tune. - "The American Organist" March 2005.
