In the film, Bert sings this song on the rooftops with Mary Poppins, going on to sing it in small snippets throughout the film. Chim Chim Cher-ee won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in the year of its release, and is one of Julie Andrew's favourite songs from Disney. The song was originally inspired by a drawing of a chimney sweep created by the screenwriter of the film, Don DaGradi.
