Chaconne was written for a very dear friend of mine when I was playing with a jazz group in Paris in the late 1980's. It's based on what we then called a Spanish jazz progression. Over the years I have made several arrangements of the piece for different ensembles. In this recent string orchestra version I've written solos for all the members of the string family, each with a different mood or character. The duration is 5'. This piece can be played separately or preceded by a companion piece, Meditation for string orchestra.
