Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862501)."Broken Ivory" WAS actually written on an old upright grand piano, at a friend's house. The keys were ivory, and Boy, were they Broken! Here is post-bop modal tune, with a bridge that uses two short vamps. The changes are easy to find improv material on, but, as with all GateWay Editions Jazz Ensemble Series charts, there are SampleSolos, for the trumpet and tenor saxophone. This piece features a trumpet section soli, with playable ranges and short lines that make for a smooth ensemble sound. There is a saxophone section soli as well, which uses a motivic concept to make the passage clearer to perform. Features our GateWay Editions Rhythm Uni-Part, and a large, easy-to-see 4 measures to a line layout, for maximum ease of viewing and playing. Running time is 4:40 at tempo. Audio clip has ALL the SampleSolos and the drum part just as they are written. MBB.
