Birthday Honours was premiered in 2007 to celebrate the 70th birthday of British composer Guy Woolfenden. It makes a perfect piece to mark any anniversary or as a surprise on someone's actual birthday. The trio section of this march quotes the familiar tune, Happy Birthday, before melody, counter-melody and the initial theme all combine to create an extravagant musical celebration. The opening introduction forms a swift and conclusive coda at which point it is time to blow out the candles and serve up the cake!

Martin Ellerby componeerde Birthday Honours voor een verjaardag. Dit feestelijke thema maakt het werk bijzonder geschikt voor jubilea van verenigingen. Maar ook als verjaardagsverrassing voor een speciaal iemand doet dit werkhet goed. In het triodeel van deze serenade in marsvorm is ook Happy Birthday te horen. Daarna wisselen ritmisch varierende originele tegenmelodieen, het eerste thema en nog een keer het alom bekende lied elkaar af. Totdateen swingend coda het werk besluit en... de kaarsen mogen worden uitblazen en de taart kan worden verdeeld!

Birthday Honours wurde für einen Geburtstag komponiert und eignet sich daher besonders gut für Jubilaen von Vereinen oder als Geburtstagsüberraschung für eine einzelne Person. Im Trio dieses in Marschform konzipierten Standchens wird erstmals das berühmte Lied Happy Birthday zitiert, dann wechseln rhythmisch variierend originale Gegenmelodien, das erste Thema und noch einmal das Geburtstagslied einander ab, bis die Einleitung das Stück beendet.
