The Circle of Fourths has been a staple of both jazz and classical composition for hundreds of years. Here is a Latin jazz piece that uses that sort of progression to take a short melodic fragment from C minor all the way to F flat Major, and back again, the second time to C MAJOR! How flexible and artistic is THAT? Still used by composers of every stripe, from Wayne Shorter and Chick Corea to Philip Glass and John Adams, the Circle of Fourths is as timeless as the overtone series itself.
