At first, the song gained little popularity, until bandleader Artie Shaw recorded a swing version. Even though the song was released on the "B" side of a record, Begin the Beguine became a best-selling record in 1938, peaking at no. 3, and launched Shaw and his band to fame and popularity. In short order, all the major big bands recorded it, including Harry James, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey and Glenn Miller. Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell danced to it in the film Broadway Melody of 1940. And, as a vocal, it has been sung by Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Elvis Presley. Even today, Begin the Beguine is remembered as one of the most iconic songs of the Big Band Era. This arrangement will be a great addition to your popular music repertoire.
