Composed by Sergei Prokofiev. Arranged by Shawn Heller. 20th Century,Movies,TV,Recital,Patriotic. Piano Reduction,Sheet Music Single. 22 pages. Published by Shawn Heller (S0.539094).

"Battle on the Ice" is the longest scene from the 1938 film, Alexander Nevsky (Russian: Александр Невский). Prokofiev's score was composed for a collaboration with Sergei Eisenstein on his first sound film. Later, it was reworked into a cantata for performances in Moscow with Prokofiev conducting. Considered by many as the first true music video, the battle scene is one of the most dramatic climaxes in movie and music history. The gradual build up is a magnificently long crescendo as the armies near each other.
Prokofiev had made a trip to Hollywood in 1937-38 and had spent considerable time at Walt Disney Studios. (He was tempted to become a Hollywood composer, having been offered a job by Vernon Duke's agent at $2,500 a week). It is fascinating to speculate what might have happened if he had joined their pantheon.
