2016 Holiday Contest Entry While Johann Sebastian Bach composed this piece, we suspect that Franz Liszt may have made the current arrangement. He was suspiciously eager to play the second harpsichord part and unabashedly "kvelled" when anybody referred to the Bach- Liszt portion of the program during dinner beforehand. Of course the only thing the audience seemed to care about was the opportunity to hear two of history’s greatest keyboard virtuosos playing together for the first time. The composition itself is positively ebullient. Brisk tempos, a bright chorus in major, and a wonderfully dramatic development in minor where the theme is tossed from keyboard to keyboard in the best imitative style. 2015 Holiday Contest.
