Anthem of Praise was commissioned by the Moriah War Memorial College, Sydney in 1992 for the primary school senior concert band. The band's director, Mrs. Robert Goot, requested a work that would not only challenge and inspire the players but the audience alike. The work has a notation to be played "with dignity and strength" and it is that annotation which encapsules the effect the composer and commissioner intended to have on both performer and listener.
