Alexander wrote a number of hymns onarticles of the Apostles' Creed, and "All Things Bright andBeautiful" is an exposition of the article "Maker of Heaven andEarth." Published in Hymns for Little Children (1848) and set to the English traditional tune "Royal Oak," Alexander's hymn is a cheerful acknowledgment of God's goodness andpre-eminence as Creator of all things.
