This is a famous piece by JS Bach, the first piece in his collection of 3 Sonatas and 3 Partitas for Solo Violin.

While it is Bach's genius to reduce a piece with few parts into a Solo Violin, due to the technical difficulty and scoring (many sixty-fourth and even hundred twenty-eight notes; aka hemidemisemiquaver and quasihemidemisemiquaver notes), it may not be easy for a beginner or intermediate violinist to appreciate the beauty of the piece.

This arrangement for string quartet expands the musical treasure which was compressed into a solo violin piece, so that the piece is more accessible to be played by violinists (with other musicians) who have yet to be technically advanced. It also lets the audience hear the individual parts of the piece on separate instruments, yet blend together beautifully.

In addition, to facilitate beginners to play, the note durations have been made into 3 versions; quadrupled, doubled and original. All 3 versions are included this score. It is much easier to start playing this piece with the quadrupled note duration.
