This composition features solo horn with the piano in music based off of Martin Luther's famous hymn "Eine Feste Burg Ist Unser Gott" (A Mighty Fortress Is Our God). However, it features the rarely heard lower-middle register of the horn, the mixolydian church mode, and polymeter, in this unique take on the hymn tune.
A Mighty Fortress Is Our God is primarily intended for use within the Christian tradition, and reflects the theological beliefs and worship of Christian practice. However, it may also have some pedagogical use for the horn player in intermediate levels of study with unique challenges in timing and in playing in lower registers.
